The St Domingo region of Liverpool was named after St Domingo House built in the area by the West Indies trader, privateer and slave trader (ref3 p.26) George Campbell, who became Mayor of Liverpool in 1763. Connections evidencing the slave trade are ubiquitous in Liverpool. The church no longer exists, but acknowledgement is permanently needed.

The original St Edward's College had been established as a boarding school in 1848 in a large mansion called St Domingo House; named after the Isle of San Domingo, where one George Campbell, a privateer and subsequently Mayor of Liverpool, had captured a rich prize.
